My name is Nathan McIlwraith, and I founded TourBC.ca Ecotourism with a vision to create opportunities for people to connect deeply with the land, themselves, and each other in a way that no other company offers.

My Story

Growing up, I didn’t have the privilege of learning our traditional manners. Although my mother identified the ‘Truth’ and the Creator to us, the roots weren’t ingrained until my later years. However, in my late teens, and early adulthood, I was fortunate to be surrounded by the rich traditions and stories of my ancestors and the great Lenny Poucette, who adopted me as a son. His teachings instilled in me a passion for community, sustainability, and respect for the land. These teachings shaped who I am today and inspired my mission to create something that blends culture, adventure, and long-term sustainability. I’ve developed my skills over the years in areas like risk prevention, inclusion, first aid, and economic development. But at the heart of it all, I’m driven by a passion to share Indigenous ways of life and to foster a sense of community that brings people closer together. “This is my spiritual obligation.”

2025 is set to be a transformative year for us:

• We’re building a ranch where guests can learn survival skills and traditional ways of life.
• Our horse expeditions in Stoney Nakoda, on the Rocky Border, will offer a unique way to experience the untamed beauty of nature.
• We’re committed to sustainability, ethical practices, and fostering partnerships with local Indigenous communities to ensure every experience is rooted in authenticity and respect.
